The Art of Giving A Crap

A student-written novel driven by a powerful message of compassion.

We are proud to announce that, after a year and two months of our student team working tirelessly on this book, the first Young Author Project novel has a projected launch date of August 1, 2024. Pre-orders will be hand-signed by the authors themselves. (This exclusive edition won’t be available after launch.)

The fact of the matter is, you never know what someone is going through just by looking at them. So many of us are fighting unseen battles as we navigate life. The Art of Giving A Crap is a fictional story, but it addresses very real heavy-hitting topics such as abuse, neglect, drug consumption, and self-harm.

The story is written in a parallel structure in which readers get to know two completely opposite characters, Lucy and Asher. When their lives come crashing together, they find they have a lot to learn about each other and about life.

In pre-ordering this book, you are supporting a project that’s become bigger than I ever could have imagined it to be when this first started in my classroom a little over a year ago.

I had no idea that being a part of this project would mean so much to the kids involved. It’s more than just a book to them; it’s been an experience. Lifelong memories and friendships have been created as a result of this project. New skills have been learned. Fears have been conquered. Some old scars have started to heal. I’ve watched each of them grow in their own ways.

All funds generated from this project are for them. They’ll help us seed future projects (of which we have 3 ideas so far). Of course, we’ll need to celebrate as well because we tackled something so gargantuan. We can do hard things, and we did. Each book we sell is proof of that.

Thank you for your support. ❤ – Natalie Wilkinson, YAP Coordinator.

P.S. Please note: Book launch date is August 1, 2024. Books will ship after this date. Please allow additional processing time for printing and mailing. Provide us with your email to ensure you receive timely updates on your order. Thanks again for supporting the Young Author Project!

Current fundraising goal for marketing expenses:

$2,200

(Printing costs are not included in this. We’re taking it one step at a time.)

About Me

I’m a licensed middle school instructor (6-8th grade English Language Arts and Spanish) and published children’s book author with a heart and soul for Jesus. I love to teach using practical, real-world skills that kids could ACTUALLY use someday.

Students love to work with me because I strive to create an atmosphere of joy, creativity, and excellence.

My favorite thing to do is work on the Young Author Project initiative. It’s a newfound love of mine and the most fun I’ve had in a long time. To be able to create the opportunity for students to become published authors before graduating high school is unlike anything I’ve ever done before, and infinitely more meaningful. I wish I’d had something like the Young Author Project when I was growing up, and it’s my privilege to serve in this way.
